Qantas has announced that its first route to be operated by the 787 Dreamliner will be Melbourne to Los Angeles, with the inaugural flight taking off on December 15th 2017.
Earlier this week the airline also announced it would offer the world’s first regular direct service between the UK and Australia, to be operated by the Dreamliner from March 2018.
Operating 6 days per week, the Qantas Dreamliner will replace the 747 aircraft currently being used on the route. The service will run alongside the daily Airbus A380 service also flying from Melbourne to Los Angeles. The Dreamliner features a total of 236 seats – less than most other aircraft of its type – offering more space than ever before. With larger windows, bigger baggage lockers and 20% less fuel consumption, the Dreamliner is the most advanced passenger aircraft in the skies.
Qantas International CEO Gareth Evans said:
“The Dreamliner is a game-changing aircraft that opens up a new era for Qantas, and it’s been designed with passenger comfort in mind.
“The aircraft itself offers passengers larger windows, a smoother ride and better air quality to reduce jetlag.
“In Economy there’s more room and plenty of storage. In Business, our suites will offer a fully flat bed and direct aisle access. We’ll be unveiling our Premium Economy in the first quarter of next year and it will set new standards for the industry.”
Currently the 747 operates just twice per week between Melbourne and Los Angeles. From December, the Dreamliner will replace this aircraft and operate 6 times per week. This takes the total number of Qantas services on the route from nine to 13 return flights per week and will give customers the convenience of a morning or afternoon departure from Melbourne on most days.
Fares will be on sale from Christmas Day 2016. To be one of the first passengers to experience the new Qantas Dreamliner, just call SkyClub on 0207 255 1234, or submit a request using our online booking form.
