Amenity kits are certainly one of several perks of flying business class, with many passengers choosing to take theirs home as a memento from their journey. It’s no surprise then that airlines are trying to make their amenity kits more unique and appealing for customers.
In the past few months several airlines have updated their business class amenity kits and this week Qantas has followed suit, putting a unique slant on their amenity kits by introducing Australian art work in the designs.
From 1 May the new range of amenity kits will be available in business class on international flights, with two designs launching every few months.
Qantas has collaborated with 16 of Australia’s leading artists, photographers and digital influencers to introduce a variety of different designs and styles (8 types for men and eight for women). The designs were selected by a panel of professional Australian contemporary art curators in an initiative called ‘Qantas curates’.
Each of the artists chosen have different specialties, including pop culture, photography, fine art, abstract landscape, Indigenous art and textile design.
Qantas Group Executive Brand, Marketing & Corporate Affairs Olivia Wirth said:
“As the national carrier, we’re pleased to support talented Aussies telling uniquely Australian stories through their artwork and share them with a global audience.”
“Along with inflight pyjamas, we know amenity kits are an important part of the international Business class experience. Customers love the functionality of our kits and many use them after their flight as make-up bags, an evening clutch or to carry their mobile phones. So, the exposure is broad.”
In late 2016 the airline introduced a set of business class pyjamas updated in line with the company’s new branding and livery, featuring a new navy blue kangaroo logo and “Qantas” printed on the back of the neck.
Billie Justice Thomson, whose artwork Fairy Bread will feature on an amenity kit for women said she was proud to be part of a program that showcases artwork in such a unique way.
“It’s really exciting to be part of an art exhibition at 38,000 feet. This is a powerful way to share contemporary art, particularly alongside some of Australia’s most talented artists”, said Billie.
The amenity kits feature ASPAR products by Aurora Spa (hand cream, lip balm and face moisturiser), a wrap-around eye mask in the same artwork as the kit, Colgate toothpaste, toothbrush, earplugs and travel socks.
