Qatar Airways is planning to launch flights to Chiang Mai from December 2017 in order to meet increased demand for Thai destinations amongst leisure travellers. This will be the airline’s fourth Thai destination after Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi.
The seasonal service will operate four times per week between Doha and Chiang Mai from December 2017 to May 2018. This time of the year is “cool season” in Chiang Mai meaning it is warm yet not too wet or humid, making it a popular time for holidaymakers to book a sunshine getaway.
Qatar Airways says the route will be operated by a “wide-body” aircraft, although it has yet to mention what type. One thing we do know for certain is it will feature the airline’s award-winning business class product.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said:
“Our existing services to Phuket, Krabi and Bangkok are already incredibly popular, especially with customers from European countries such as the UK, France and Germany. Therefore, we are delighted to announce yet another destination, offering our renowned five-star service between Doha and Chiang Mai for leisure travellers. It also demonstrates our commitment to expand our reach with ambitious new routes around the world, taking our passengers to where they want to fly.”
Flight schedules are as follows:
Doha (DOH) to Chiang Mai (CNX) QR822 departs 20:05 arrives 06:00 (+1) (Tue, Thu, Sat, Sun)
Chiang Mai (CNX) to Doha (DOH) QR823 departs 07:10 arrives 10:55 (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun)
Qatar Airways first started flying to Thailand in 1996 with a service to Bangkok, before launching further routes to Phuket and Krabi. The airline currently offers five daily flights from Doha to Bangkok, as well as a double-daily service from Doha to Phuket and three flights a week from Doha to Krabi. Later this year, Krabi will become a daily service.
Qatar Airways was awarded ‘2017 Airline of the Year’ by Skytrax, and is planning to launch a whole host of new destinations in the near future, including Canberra, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, and Santiago to name just a few.
