Business Class Flights to Addis Ababa
Getting to and from the airport
Direct business class flights to Addis Ababa from London land at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Upon arrival, hire a taxi at the taxi ranks just outside the terminal 24 hours a day! In as little as ten minutes you will arrive in downtown Addis Ababa. Depending on traffic conditions, the 8km journey may take longer at some times of the day. There are a couple taxi types. The yellow ones are government-owned and operated by National Tour Operations; these are generally cheaper, but you have to agree upon the fare as well as pay in advance. The blue and white taxis are privately owned and have meters, but may cost you as much as ten times more! Expect to spend about £7 for the journey.
Once you are in the city, tuk-tuks called Bajajs are the easiest way to get around. They can be hired from any point on the street and you can share one for a bargain of 5p or take an individual trip for less than a quid!
Car rental is also available at the airport if you intend to travel by car during your stay. Car rental counters are located at the Arrivals Hall. Avis is the main large rental company available. It is recommended to hire a driver when you hire a car since many rental companies can spike up the prices for self-driving. Hiring drivers is also recommended for safety reasons, as drivers in Ethiopia often disregard traffic rules. You also need a local driving permit in order to drive, which requires having a local residence permit first.
