International First Class
American Airlines (AA) currently have two aircraft types that have First Class on board – the Boeing 777-200 and the flagship Boeing 777-300ER (although the B777-200s are in the process of being retrofitted). Regardless of which you fly on, did you know:
Pre-flight
When you have a First Class ticket on an international flight with American Airlines, you can enjoy a range of luxury services before you even board the aircraft. Breeze through the airport check-in and security process with Flagship Check-in if you’re leaving from Chicago-O’Hare, London Heathrow, Los Angeles, Miami or New York-JFK. You get your own exclusive customer service representative to assist you with your personal travel or if you prefer to check yourself in, a dedicated self-service kiosk. Furthermore, an expedited fast-track line through security checkpoints will have you relaxing in the First Class lounge in no time.
5-course Dining
You would ordinarily associate a 5-course meal with restaurant dining but the flight in First Class from Chicago to London on American Airlines offers it at 38,000 feet. It may take up to three hours to prepare, present and consume but it’s an extravagance that’s eagerly received by customers. Of course, if you’re not up for the entire meal service, that’s not a problem as AA aim to tailor the service to precisely how you want it.
For flights to and from Europe, Asia and South America, a 5-course sitting can include; a blend of warm mixed nuts to be enjoyed with a beverage of your choice then onto the fresh mozzarella and prosciutto for an appetizer, soup and/or salad, rosemary orange chicken with cauliflower gratin for main and a made-to-order ice cream sundae with seasonal berry toppings, hot fudge, butterscotch, pecans and whipped cream to finish. You can even pre-order a traditional Japanese meal for flights to and from Japan! Who would want to miss this?
Hotel Service
Pyjamas, slippers and a turn-down service are all synonymous with a 5-star hotel but are replicated on American Airlines’ First Class. The pyjamas are soft and very comfortable, while the turn-down service includes a lightweight blanket, premium duvet and pillow. A crew member will come round to arrange this for you once you’re ready for sleep.
Meanwhile, keep refreshed in the sky with the amenity kit featuring a bag with an authentic Eames Office design pattern containing Dermalogica skincare products. Other creature comforts you would normally expect in a hotel are Wi-Fi, a walk-up bar and complimentary snacks and refreshments throughout your First Class flight.
Café in the Sky
Enjoy your favourite ‘cuppa’ inflight with American Airlines’ on-board espresso machine for First Class passengers. Order an Illy blend of Barista-style cappuccino or latte on the only US airline to offer this service.
This facility is not heavily advertised anywhere and only appears in fine print on their menu online but it’s definitely on the B777-300ER and A321T aircraft. The crew may not even actively offer it, so keep an eye out for it and be sure to put in the request!
Domestic First Class
American Airlines was the first US carrier to offer travellers First Class seats on domestic flights which fly between Los Angeles and New York. On the A321T, customers can appreciate all the benefits found on an international flight like fully-flat beds, touchscreen monitors and Wi-Fi. And it’s not just the people who can enjoy the lavish First Class flying style either – pets can too!
Cuddle Class
Can’t bear to leave your best friend behind? You no longer have to! American Airlines have preferred seating for your furry friend. If you’re travelling First Class from Los Angeles or San Francisco to New York on an A321T, your pet can sit in a special compartment adjacent to your seat.
The cabin is affectionately known as ‘Cuddle Class’ and must be reserved at the same time you book your own seat provided a veterinarian certificate is supplied. Your four-legged companion may not be able to share your 15.4 touchscreen entertainment system but they will enjoy getting out from under your feet. Now that’s First Class!
So there you have it: five things you may not have known about flying American Airlines’ First Class both internationally and domestically.
