In 2011 Lufthansa opened its remodelled Senator Lounge at Dubai International Airport Terminal 1, replacing the former combined Business and Senator lounge. The lounge is located at departure level next to gate C26.
It is available to First Class passengers on Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines, or Star Alliance partner airlines, as well as Senator and HON Circle members of one of the Lufthansa Group airlines and Star Alliance Gold card holders.
Open from 6 pm to 08.15 am, it features a lounge area, restrooms, Wi-Fi, fax machines, TV and a selection of local and international newspapers. The 270 square metre lounge is on the smaller side, with seating for just 68 passengers, meaning Lufthansa unfortunately couldn’t accommodate business travellers too. If you’re flying on a Business Class ticket, you’ll be invited to spend your time at the airport operated “Marhaba” lounge, located just opposite the new Lufthansa Senator lounge between the gates 123 and 125.
Despite the small space available in the Senator lounge, they’ve managed to include four reclining chairs in the relaxation area, four workstation stools with laptop work spaces, an eight-compartment locker for storing carry-on luggage and eight small dining tables beside the food and beverage zone. If you have a laptop, iPad or phone with you, you can access the Internet via a free wireless connection. Be aware though that it can get rather crowded, so get there quickly or you might not be able to grab a seat. The interior is rather elegant, with beige walls, brown leather armchairs and a mural of a Lufthansa Airbus A380 on the wall. This is a welcome change to the previous black armchairs, which made the lounge feel rather dark.
You’ll also find a coffee machine, a bar where you can help yourself to beers, wines, spirits and juices, as well as a self-service food area with sandwiches, pastries, cakes, fruit salad and a couple of hot options. Don’t expect anything too extravagant when it comes to dining, rather a few snacks to graze on late at night.
This refurb of the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Dubai International formed part of a wider project worth €150 million to renovate all of its 60 lounges throughout the globe by 2015.
