Aeromexico has unveiled its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at Mexico City International Airport, giving us a first glimpse at what the cabin interiors will look like. The plane – called “Quetzalcoatl” – features exclusive seat designs by prestigious design studio New Territory, along with a newly redesigned Business Class cabin. It will be deployed on Aeromexico’s Seattle route on October 12.
A new Clase Premier
The 787-9 Business Class, known as ‘Clase Premier‘, features 36 flat-bed seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, providing passengers with direct aisle access at every seat. The individual 18-inch touchscreens are two inches larger than those featured on the Boeing 787-8, and feature two live television channels, movies, TV series, and music albums, for more than 200 total hours of entertainment. New Territory has also come up with an innovative new bar that marks a radical departure from the heavily branded business-bar experience seen on previous Aeromexico planes. Guests will now find a more welcoming kitchen-style environment lit by an overhead canopy ‘skylight’ – a large panel of flat light that gives the space a warmer feel. Here they’ll be able to socialise with other passengers and help themselves to food and drinks throughout the journey.
Ergonomic economy seating
In Economy class there are 238 ergonomic seats equipped with 11-inch touchscreens that are two inches larger than those featured on the carrier’s other aircraft models. The entertainment displays real time flight information and is loaded with movies, TV series, music and a seat-to-seat chat system. Like other aircraft in the Aeromexico fleet, the 787-9 has onboard WiFi so passengers can answer emails and surf the web, even while up in the air.
Aeromexico’s CEO Andres Conesa, said:
“We are proud to take delivery of this new Boeing 787-9 called Quetzalcoatl with its unique and original design that will represent Mexico across the globe. The airline hired the best suppliers in the world to obtain this mix of technology and comfort to benefit the thousands of Aeromexico customers who would rather fly on this airplane than on the other options available in the market.”
In total there are ten Aeromexico 787-9 Dreamliners on order, with two more due to be delivered before the end of the year. Aeromexico will start to serve the Amsterdam, London, Madrid, New York, Paris, Santiago, Shanghai, and Tokyo routes with the new Dreamliner in coming weeks.
