In an attempt to offer a more immersive inflight entertainment experience for Business Class passengers, Air France has announced it is trialling the use of virtual reality headsets in-flight.
The new headsets allow customers to enjoy 3D and 2D films or series in their own private movie theatre in isolation from the rest of the cabin.
Air France partnered with technology startup SkyLights to create the new virtual reality headsets, which have been featured on A340 flights between Paris CDG and St Martin since August 1st. There are four VR headsets available in business class, offering a selection of some forty films and series screened in 3D or 2D. Instead of just blocking out noise with Bose Noise Cancelling headsets, the idea behind these new VR systems is to completely immerse travellers in the film.
Air France said the new system could be rolled out on other flights in the months ahead. The airline said this trial run will be a valuable learning experience and confirms the importance of improving the customer experience with original and innovative solutions. It is also an opportunity for the startup SkyLights to continue to develop and improve its solution and take advantage of the company’s reputation.
This week Air France also announced that since July it has been offering its Business Class customers a refined selection of teas and herbal teas from the famous Palais des Thés tea company.
Customers travelling in Business class on board Air France’s long-haul flights are invited to try a selection of high-quality teas with a choice from two black teas, three green teas and a theine-free infusion. The teas are: Thé des Lords, Margaret’s Hope, Sencha Ariake, Thé du Hammam, Green Mint Tea and L’Herboriste Verbena-Orange-Mint. This selection of tea will be available on board, as well as in the Business lounges.
