Can’t get through the day without your caffeine fix? British Airways has partnered with British coffee company Union Hand-Roasted Coffee to supply speciality coffee for its First and Business Class customers.
From next month, the airline will be serving the company’s hand-roasted coffee in all of its UK lounges and its First and Club World cabins.
Coffee stations in the premium lounges will be revamped to display the new range of coffee options and explain the company’s dedication to sustainable sourcing. At Gatwick and Heathrow, BA is also improving the quality and quantity of food options, offering hot food throughout the whole day and introducing a better selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, including organic soups.
Onboard the aircraft, First customers can choose from a wide range of coffee options available on demand, including latte, cappuccino, filter coffee and espresso, while Business Class enjoy premium filter coffee.
Founded in 2001 the east London based Union Hand-Roasted Coffee, is one of the UK’s largest speciality coffee roasters and suppliers. BA selected the company due to its responsible sourcing and British credentials, which are in line with the airline’s values.
Union Hand-Roasted Coffee has created an exclusive blend that works well at 35,00ft, offering richness, depth and complexity of flavour. Extensive taste testing was conducted to ensure the coffee tastes good at high-altitudes, since altitude can have quite an affect the taste buds.
Sourced from Peru, the medium roast blend has espresso tasting notes of chocolate, pecan, and caramel, which was been designed to complement dishes served on board, such as the chocolate délice or warm bread and butter pudding.
Sarah Klatt-Walsh, British Airways’ Head of Product, said. “Our £4.5bn investment programme for our customers doesn’t just focus on the big-ticket items – we know it’s often the small things that really make a difference to them. A great cup of coffee to get them up and hitting the ground running after a long haul flight is exactly one of those details that really matters.”
