British Airways to Fly to Oakland

On 28th March 2017 British Airways will launch a new route from Gatwick to Oakland, San Francisco Bay, offering a non-stop service operated by a Boeing 77-200ER aircraft. This will be BA’s first route from Gatwick to California and its fifth service from London to the “Golden State”.

It is expected the new route will be a hit with tourists looking to discover California’s world-famous attractions, including Napa Valley, Carmel and Yosemite National Park. Passengers flying into Oalkand can easily reach the city of San Francisco too, which is just a 30-minute train ride or 34-minute car ride away.

There will be a total of four flights from Gatwich to Oakland per week, with prices starting at £998 in Club World. Guests flying in Business Class will be able to enjoy fast track security at London Gatwick, as well as benefiting from access to the British Airways Lounge, which is set to open in January 2107. Onboard the aircraft there are 48 flat bed seats, each equipped with 10.4 inch entertainment screens and personal power supply.

Flight BA2279 will depart Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:20, arriving at Oakland International Airport at 13:15. The return flight – BA2278 – will leave Oakland at 15:05, arriving into Gatwick at 09:25 the next day. On Tuesday flights will depart 65 minutes later.

Due to its strategic position in Northern California, Oakland is a good starting point for road trips to other Californian cities such as San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego and Los Angeles.
