Etihad Airways last week announced a partnership with Luggage Logistics to improve the end-to-end baggage delivery process across the carrier’s global airport network.
Etihad promises to deliver passengers’ luggage on time to their destination with the implementation of Luggage Logistics’ advanced Baggage Management System (BMS). The system will also allow the airline to track the location of bags at any point in its journey with ease.
By integrating flight schedules, key passenger information and departure control systems, BMS will increase the speed at which Etihad can identify passenger bags and thus improve the time it takes to transfer them from the aircraft to the airport terminal facilities and on to connecting flights. As a result, it is expected to keep departures on time and enhance on-time flight schedule performance.
The BMS software operates from a centralised database that controls all luggage-related information from multiple sources. This real-time data can be disseminated quickly and efficiently across Etihad’s operations system, enabling a more consistent visibility of luggage information.
“The partnership with Luggage Logistics will greatly improve the identification, management and transfer control of guest baggage across our global airport network including at our Abu Dhabi base. The new baggage management solution will enhance the guest experience by reducing lost or misplaced luggage, minimise delays commonly associated with baggage management, while optimising our flight operations,” ensured Etihad Airways’ Senior Vice President Airport Services, Geert W Boven.
Similarly, managing director of Luggage Logistics, Adam Dalby commented, “We are delighted to be working with Etihad Airways, who share our core values of innovation and service excellence. By delivering our state-of-the-art baggage management solution, real-time information will enable collaborative and proactive decision making, ensuring guests baggage is efficiently handled throughout its entire journey.”
The National Airline of the UAE selected the BMS solution for its compliance with all luggage-related standards; ICAO Annex 17 and relevant IATA solutions among them. The solution, which can easily be amalgamated into other airline systems, was chosen also because it greatly supports Etihad Airways’ operational and infrastructure requirements, as well as those of its hub in Abu Dhabi.
