Japan Airlines is introducing new First and Business Class amenity kits on long-haul flights from Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita airports in late February 2018.
The new kits have been designed by Italian luxury brand ETRO, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary and has made its first foray into designing an airline amenity kit. These new kits will be handed out to customers travelling in First Class on flights departing and arriving in Japan, as well as in Business Class on flights departing from Japan.
For the Business Class amenity kits available on flights travelling to Japan, the airline partnered with Tatsumura Textile, a famous manufacturer in Kyoto. The outer surface of the pouch is made with an original fabric woven with a traditional Kikko pattern – a traditional tortoise shell pattern which suggests Tsurukame (crane and tortoise), two animals that symbolize longevity.
The kits have been ornamented with an elegant Setsugekka (snow moon flowers) textile design with JAL’s tsuru (crane) motif.
The color of the fabric will change every three months to depict the four seasons in Japan (Spring – Blue / Summer – Red / Autumn – White / Winter – Black). This kit embodies JAL’s brand values of “Tradition, Innovation, Spirit of Japan” to evoke feelings for the cultural characteristics of Japan.
The First Class kits will be available from mid-March 2018 on routes from Narita to New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as flights from Haneda to New York, San Francisco, London and Paris.
Business Class kits will be introduced from late February 2017 on routes from Narita to New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas Fort Worth, Vancover, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Moscow, Sydney and Melbourne. They will also be available on flights from Haneda to New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, as well as flights from Kansai to Los Angeles.
