Malaysia Airlines launched its first A330-300 aircraft with new Business Class seats from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney last week. Flight MH141 took off on 23 March but the airline unveiled its new product in a ceremony in Sepang the day before.
The event was attended by airline staff, invited guests and members of the media as well as Malaysia Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Simmons. All were able to experience the national carrier’s refurbished Business Class offerings.
The new seats have a pitch of 44 inches (111cm) and measure at 20 inches (60cm) wide and 76 inches (193cm) long when at the fully-flat bed position. There is more working space when compared to other Malaysia Airlines’ Business Class cabins and added storage space.
‘Carefully designed with the passenger’s comfort and needs in mind’, each seat has been installed with a 16-inch touch screen in-flight entertainment system.
There are 27 seats in Business Class configured in a slightly unconventional 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 layout which means direct aisle access at every seat save for three.
At the launch event, Mr Simmons commented, ‘This marks the start of an exciting product roll-out for our Business Class customers to experience. The Business Class cabin refurbishment will be carried out in stages on all 15 of Malaysia Airlines’ A330 aircraft by September 2016.’
He also added, ‘With the launch of our new seats, we are confident that Malaysia Airlines will be the first choice for travel to, from and around Malaysia. We are also confident that these seats will further improve and strengthen our premium product and service offerings.’
Passengers wanting to experience the new seats, which Malaysia Airlines claims is ‘one of the best received business class seats in the industry’, can do so from now onwards on Malaysia Airlines’ A330 flights between Kuala Lumpur and Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, China and India. As well the 27 Business Class seats, there are also 263 Economy seats on board.
