Qatar Airways has launched a new farm-to-table on-board dining experience for First and Business Class customers, along with new tableware, in-flight menus, cutlery and chinaware. The new concept will be introduced on European routes first, before being rolled out on the rest of the network.
The airline will introduce a range of new signature dishes based on the local cuisines of route destinations, giving the in-flight menus a more regional feel. As an example, porcini and truffle risotto will be introduced on Italian flights. A greater emphasis has been placed on using fresh, seasonal produce from local farms and suppliers.
Passengers will also be able to enjoy a taste of the Middle East on most routes, enjoying traditional Arabic dishes such as kabsa, biryani and flame-grilled meats. Business Class customers will be able to choose from a range of new signature warm desserts, in addition to afternoon tea on certain routes.
Other new introductions include mini grinders dispensing pink Himalayan sea salt and black peppercorns, along with linen-lined bread baskets filled with a freshly baked trio of bread.
Qatar Airways chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, said:
“Every new concept was designed and produced with the highest attention to detail and quality, to meet the exacting standards of our passengers.
“Qatar Airways is collaborating closely with local farms and suppliers to produce products for our specific needs, promoting a ‘farm-to-table’ approach.
“Our in-flight dining menus are designed to align with the four seasons, better incorporating the use of locally-grown produce and tapping into authentic foods of local provenance delivering the very highest international standards.”
Qatar Airways says it has become more in tune with the dietary needs of travellers, recognising a preference for healthier foods onboard flights. Menus now feature lighter options, such as fresh crisp salads, woodland berries, warm breakfast oatmeal and healthier drinks such as “cold pressed” juice.
The airline has also enhanced its caviar service offering for First Class passengers, which is now accompanied with a Balik-style salmon and showcased on a bespoke crystal plate.
