Be honest, do you watch the airline safety video? In an effort to make safety information more entertaining, several airlines, such as New Zealand and Virgin Atlantic, have partnered with celebrities to create inventive safety videos that will keep passengers’ eyes on the screen.
Turkish Airlines has joined suit, creating an animated video featuring familiar LEGO minifigures in surprising new roles. The result is hilarious, with Emmet, Wyldstyle and other characters poking fun at the novelty safety video trend.
The video begins with Emmet and Wyldstyle telling viewers they’re between movies right now:
“…and what do stars do between movies? Start a flashy airline safety video!”
The stars then go on to mock the appearance of celebrities saying:
“Step 2: don’t be afraid to use shameless celebrity cameos in your safety video”
In addition to “airline-approved” humour, the video also features an unforgettable song and dance number, which will be sure to get stuck in your head well after the flight.
The custom-animated safety video comes ahead of the highly anticipated movie sequel “The LEGO Movie 2”, which is due in cinemas beginning February 2019. In partnership with Warner Bros. the safety video will be shown on all flights and will also debut online. Turkish Airlines says this will kick off the “biggest partnership with the smallest cast ever assembled”, hinting there is much more to come, including a second safety video. Leading up to the worldwide release of “The LEGO Movie 2”, Turkish Airlines will roll-out a global TV campaign, film themed wrapped airplanes, in-flight and in-airport activations.
The animated safety video was brought to life by a 16-strong production team consisting of 2 concept artists, 3 layout artists, 7 animators and 4 lighting technicians. Lasting more than 950 days from beginning to end, the specialists used 2,938,840 LEGO bricks to animate the LEGO action.
M. İlker Aycı, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee commented; “As a leading global airline with an emphasis on safety, we are excited to partner with Warner Bros. and The LEGO Movie franchise for this video. We are both brands that are enjoyed around the world, bringing together generations and cultures everywhere. We hope that our passengers can enjoy this new video, which has something for everyone.”
