United Airlines has opened its United Polaris Lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport, located in Terminal C, following security screening, between Gates C102 and C120.
Passengers travelling in United Polaris – the airline’s international Business Class product – will be able to sit back and relax in a 27,000 square foot space with seating for 455 passengers and 10 shower suites with rainfall showers. The lounge has a local flair throughout, with a vibrant lighting fixture created by a Brooklyn-based art laboratory greeting passengers as they enter. The fixture, created by Richard Clarkson Studio, is meant to mimic the constellations of the 12 zodiac signs.
There are 15 different types of seating throughout the lounge, as well as 570 power outlets and 450 USB ports, so guests will have no trouble finding somewhere to charge up their phones and laptops. 10 private daybeds are available outfitted with Saks Fifth Avenue bedding should passengers needs to catch 40 winks and there are 4 private phone rooms for making phone calls in peace and quiet.
Since New York City is known for its preeminence in the world of craft cocktails, the bar offers a thoughtful cocktail list that includes the United Polaris Old Fashioned – a fresh take on the classic – and the Fernet About It, which is a unique version of the Cuba Libre. The lounge also offers house-made items including oolong-steeped bourbon, lavender syrup, vodkas and vermouth. Passengers can sip on a United Polaris Star cocktail, featuring house-made anise-infused vodka.
For dining there are two options – a private dining area with table service for up to 48 guests and a bistro-like buffet for a quick snack on the go.
The a private dining area features a menu focused on comfort foods, developed by New York Chef John Glowacki. Menu items include potato latkes, polenta fries, wild mushroom risotto with a balsamic reduction, Moroccan-spiced braised lamb and the “Brookie” – a playful combination of a brownie and cookie served with milk.
Meanwhile the buffet offers a do-it-yourself bagel bar plus sandwiches and wraps such as a curried salmon salad with cucumber raita and baby spinach on a pumpernickel roll as well as a charcuterie board and chicken parmesan.
Jill Kaplan, President, New York/New Jersey for United Airlines, said: “More United customers begin their journey in the New York/New Jersey region than in any other of our hub cities. From here, our route network reaches across the globe, and we are thrilled to now offer our customers traveling in United Polaris business class a best-in-class lounge experience.”
The airline is continuing to add new international destinations from Newark, including Porto, Portugal and Reykjavik, Iceland, which we launched this month.
The opening of the United Polaris lounge at New York/Newark closely follows the debut of the United Polaris lounge at San Francisco International Airport in April. This summer United will introduce a new United Polaris lounge at George Bush Intercontinental in Houston, followed by a lounge at Los Angeles International Airport this autumn.
On average, United plans to add one aircraft with the new United Polaris business class seat every 10 days from now through 2020. From July 1st 2018, every seat in the United Polaris cabin will now come with a cooling gel pillow, which was previously only available on request.
