WestJet has unveiled its first ever Business Class cabin to the world. The airline revealed images of its new 787-Dreamliner cabin interiors, livery and logo this week in the lead up to the arrival of its first Dreamliner aircraft in early 2019.
The 787-9 Dreamliner features a three-class configuration including Business Class seating, Premium Economy and Economy seating. Designed by PriestmanGoode, the cabin interior takes inspiration from Canada’s stunning landscapes, featuring a rich colour palette across all cabins. Business Class, for example, features earth tones inspired by the splendour of Canadian summers, while Premium Economy features a soothing alpine lake blue.
Business Class customers can order meals on-demand at any time during the flight using a touchscreen service and each seat offers exceptional levels of privacy and comfort. When it’s time to relax, lay-flat mattresses, bedding and turn-down service will ensure guests enjoy a good night’s sleep. Seats in the Business Class cabin are arranged in a 1-2-1 herringbone layout, with the middle seats angled away from each other and the outer seats angled towards the windows. The entertainment screen is one of the largest in its class, measuring 18 inches, and seats can be controlled using a touchscreen system.
Ed Sims, WestJet President and CEO, said:
“The introduction of Boeing’s 787-9 Dreamliner, a state-of-the-art aircraft, is the dawn of a new era for WestJet and the next step in our transformation to a global network airline. The updated livery is modern and dynamic while the interior is world-class, distinctly Canadian and uniquely WestJet. Both reflect WestJet’s transition from a regional airline in 1996 to a new era of connecting Canada with the world and bringing the world to Canada.”
WestJet has firm orders of 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft and options for another 10, all of which will feature the new livery, logo and interior.
The updated logo and livery was overseen by Seattle-based firm Ove Brand Design, who updated the font to “Bliss”, giving the WestJet logo a more current style. The Maple Leaf symbol remains, although it has been updated to have a more contemporary and bold look. The logo also now uses a single colour to soften the regional emphasis on “west.”
In addition to the updated stylized Maple Leaf on the aircraft tail, the livery also now features a Canadian flag on the front of the aircraft – another nod to WestJet’s heritage. One side of the fuselage will feature the words “The Spirit of Canada”, while the other side will feature the French translation, “L’esprit du Canada“.
The livery will gradually appear across WestJet’s entire fleet as new aircraft are delivered in 2018 and as aircraft are repainted in their normal cycle. The Boeing 737 MAX-8 will be the first aircraft to feature the new livery in June.
